Occasionally, entries in your Call Log will have a number but no associated name specified in the “Name” field. This can happen for a number of reasons. For instance, if you ask Dialectic to dial a number by simply passing a phone number without a name or if you are monitoring a device for incoming calls that does not have caller ID enabled on the monitored line. Using the “Update Selection name from Lookup Source” action in the action menu at the bottom of the call list (above the detail view separator bar on the far left corner).
When this action is triggered, the software will use the provided phone number to do a reverse search on the Lookup source as specified in the main window. If a match is found, the name of the contact as entered in your contact manager will be added to the “Name” field for the selected call entry. If no match is found in your specified contact manager, Dialectic will search through your recently dialed numbers & Quick Dial entries. If the call entry number is found in either of these locations, the name associated with the matching item will be entered in the log. Finally, if no match has been found and the contact manager specified as the source for Lookups is not the Address Book application (Contacts), then the Address Book will be searched for the number and, if found, the contact name will be used in the call entry.
