LaunchBar by Objective Development is a versatile launcher. Among the many options available when using LaunchBar is the ability to select a phone number stored in your Address Book (Contacts) database (or in Microsoft Entourage) and send it to Dialectic for dialing. To do this, you need to modify the phone number action in the LaunchBar preferences to run a custom AppleScript. To do so, follow these steps:
- Download the Dialectic LaunchBar script from: http://www.jonn8.com/dialectic/resources/Launchers/DialecticLaunchBarAction.zip
- Extract the downloaded archive and place the included script, “Dial via Dialectic.scpt”, in a permanent location (the ~/Library/Scripts/ folder is a good place).
- Open LaunchBar and from the LaunchBar menu, select “Preferences...”
- Click the “Actions” tab of the LaunchBar Preferences window.
- From the “Phone numbers:” drop down at the bottom of the Default Actions section, select “Choose Script...”
- From the file navigator dialog, choose the “Dial via Dialectic.scpt” file in the permanent location you to which you moved the script downloaded in the archive referenced above.
- Close the preferences window.
Now, when you use LaunchBar to select a telephone number and press Return, the number will be dialed by Dialectic using the current Location & Dialing Rules. Please see the LaunchBar documentation for more information.
You can also use LaunchBar to launch AppleScripts to control Dialectic such as switching the current Location or retrieve your Quick Dial entries. For example scripts (and other items) that could be used to integrate Dialectic & LaunchBar, see the Dialectic Online Resources:
