To make dialing with the modem more responsive, try adjusting your Modem Dial Method configuration to use the following settings:
Init String: AT&F
Monitor Sound Through Speakers: Enabled
Wait for Dial Tone: Disabled
Tone or Pulse: Tone
Disable Calling Tones. Disabled in the US; enabled elsewhere
Wait for a Response: Disabled
Hang Up Delay: 10 Seconds
